This full-day tour begins with an early morning 2.5-hour car ride southwest of Ho Chi Minh City. Upon arrival, you will then find yourself smooth sailing down the coastal plain to be impressed by the floating market. In this southern region of Vietnam, it is easy to lose sight of land because the delta encompasses multiple rivers, canals, and streams that are woven together. For many Vietnamese citizens, the Mekong is better known as the “rice bowl.” Over the decades, it has become an agricultural miracle that provides more than one-third of the country’s annual food source from just ten percent of its land mass. Even in this rural landmark, the Mekong is one of Vietnam’s most densely populated area.
You will encounter many boats, houses, restaurants, and markets that float along the waterways; and pass through green rice paddies and fishing villages. This trip allows you to understand and explore the daily lifestyle of Vietnam’s countrymen and women. But, no trip can ever be too rewarding or sweet without sipping honey tea and sampling coconut candy.
At lunch, you are offered a hands-on cooking course where you will attempt to cook a few Vietnamese courses on the Mekong archipelago. Country life continues with bicycling around the local villages to visit the Vietnamese artisans at work producing rice wrapping papers, straw hammocks, sandals, and handbags.
