Tan Son Nhat International Airport Guide (Ho Chi Minh City)

This guide will include maps of terminals and directions to some of the Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) facilities. It is a busy airport in Ho Chi Minh City with daily domestic and international flights. Its capacity and number of passengers are also among the highest in Vietnam.

There are 2 separate international and domestic flights buildings with a connected path on the ground floor. The total area of the guest terminals and parking lots is 54,800 square meters.

If you come to the airport by bus, they will drop you off in front of the international terminal. When stepping off, turn left and follow the arrow to walk to the domestic terminal, or turn right to the furthest end and find stairways to the second and third floors where the departure hall of the international terminal is located.

International Arrival

The greeter hall includes the ground and first floor. If you are in transit and don’t need to check out of the airport, go straight to the Transfer Counter and wait in the lounges for your next flight.

International immigration

If you want to check out, you can follow the directions to find your way to the Immigration or Landing Visa if you haven’t applied for one via e-visa or at the embassy in your country.

In the arrival hall one floor down from the immigration counters, you will first see the conveyor belt to claim your baggage and the customs area if you have any goods to declare.

After finishing the checking-out procedures, you can find information counters for help at the kiosks, currency exchange services, and transportation service providers like car rentals and bus ticket sales. Outside of the terminal building, there are many fast-food restaurants, cafes, and luggage lockers on the east and west sides of the hall.

The taxi stand will be on your furthest left-hand side from the main entrance. In the opposite direction, the bus will parking right in front of the main entrance to the east (your right-hand side) in the second lane. That is also the way leading to the domestic terminal.

International Departure

It is recommended to be at the airport 2 hours before your flight departure time. Most hotels from Ho Chi Minh City’s center are about 30 minutes from the airport, so you will also need to factor in the traveling time.

You can buy the flight ticket if you haven’t bought one in advance from Vietnam Airlines and VietJet or exchange VND Dong with other currencies at the departure halls.

After going through the baggage check, security check, and immigration there are lounges, VAT refund kiosks, spas, rest zones, duty-free shops, and restaurants for your convenience.

Even though the domestic terminal has 2 levels, the arrival hall and departure hall of domestic flights are all located on the ground floor; the first floor is for the waiting hall and jet bridges.

Domestic Arrival

You can go straight to the baggage claim and out to the public hall at the domestic arrival. There are also information counters to ask for help, car rentals, taxi stands, and a bus station outside in the public hall.

Domestic Departure

For flights within Vietnam, security check is needed without going through immigration. And just like the international departure, several convenient facilities like lounges, restaurants (fast foods and Vietnamese cuisine), massages, free mobile charging, and a smoking area are available in the waiting area.

It is recommended to be at the airport 2 hours before your flight departure time, particularly if you are flying budget airlines like Jetstar or Vietjet. The check-in counters at these carriers are very long. Most hotels from Ho Chi Minh City’s center are located about 30 minutes from the airport, so you will need to factor in the traveling time as well.
