If you are in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and want to take a day trip to the nearest beach or have a weekend getaway from the busy city, Vung Tau is your destination. And traveling to Vung Tau has never been easier and safer at sea as you get to avoid all of the traffic. Our team of local guides gave this speedboat transport a go, and the process was easier and smoother than we initially thought.
Here is how you can go from Ho Chi Minh to Vung Tau
Go to the boat terminal located at Nha Rong’s port to buy your ferry ticket. The address is 5 Nguyen Tat Thanh, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City.
Note: There are multiple trips daily. It isn’t necessary to pre-book your tickets ahead of time unless you want to have security for your seats. If you’re traveling around the holidays, then we recommend purchasing your tickets in advance. You can buy it at the ticket booth located on the left-hand side of Nha Rong’s port entrance, or you can buy it over the phone or online at GreenlineDP and don’t forget to bring the electronic confirmation in your email and show your phone to the crew for boarding.

To get to the docking terminal, walk inside of Nha Rong’s port (next to Ho Chi Minh Museum) and make a left toward the end of the road. Alternatively, you can look for the wooden Elisa boat and walk toward it. The dock to go to Vung Tau is right next to the brown Elisa restaurant boat.
It takes around 15 minutes to board everyone, and the boat can seat about 100 passengers.

The whole journey takes 2 hours, and you will arrive in Vung Tau in a breeze. We expected wave turbulence and motion sickness, so we had prepared some seasickness pills. It turned out the ride was very smooth, and we didn’t need it.
Once in Vung Tau, you’ll get dropped off at the cable ride area near Ho May Park at 1A Tran Phu Street, Vung Tau. You can easily hail a taxi to get to your hotel, sunbath at the beach, or gorge on the delicious seafood! For your return ticket from Vung Tau to Ho Chi Minh, you can pre-purchase or purchase on the day of travel.
